Fresh clean water is essential to life and maintaining our outstanding natural environment in New Zealand. This is a resource that may have been taken for granted in the past, but with the intensification of dairy farming in regions, the industry and population growth within the cities, maintaining the quality of our waterways is highly important going into the future. The countries freshwater resources are used extensively for water supply in our communities, electricity generation and recreational activities. However, studies show that water quality is declining and this is a major concern to all water users and our precious environment. At Greenwood Associates, we design stream and waterway management planting along the banks of waterways using a selection of native plants to help stabilize the bank and trap nutrients that may run into waterways. We also design fencing, tracks and paths and control weeds along waterway margins to prevent as much damage as possible.
